The department of sociology was established in Govt. Degree College for women, Pulwama in the year 2011. The Department has since then upheld its commitment to fulfilling its mandate through the medium of quality instruction and collaboration. Since its inception the Department has progressed by leaps and bounds, having outshined many milestones in its pursuit to attain the wider horizons. Sociology is progressively growing in its scope and expanding its horizon. Within a very short span of time Sociology has proved to be a very popular subject among social science students, as more and more students are now opting for this subject. The enrollment of students in this discipline is increasing every year given to the fact that this subject is very fruitful both for higher academic pursuits and civil services competitive examinations. Moreover, the subject helps students to acquire skills that will be useful to them in their personal and professional life. Department of Sociology has a well-equipped and updated library with reading collections from leading publishers, magazines, and research journals. This department also utilizes the services of Audio-visual classrooms for smooth lecture delivery at the time of need. Besides, we find well-ventilated classrooms with proper lighting and seating arrangements for all the learners to provide them congenial classroom atmosphere.
