History as a subject of study is very important for a number of practical reasons. It contributes to our understanding of the intricacies of the modern world by shedding light on the earliest settlements, cultures, socio-political and economic structures. It allows us to learn from the mistakes of the past, which can inform and rectify our decisions in the present and the future. It promotes investigative, analytical and critical reasoning. Moreover, in competitive exams like UPSC and other state exams, study of History has now become thoroughly indispensable.  

The Department of History, as a part of the Government Degree College Women Pulwama, offers the UG courses as per the syllabi set under NEP. The syllabi of the History courses encompass the Indian and Kashmir histories (Ancient, Medieval and Modern). It also includes study of World History and Historiography. 

The study of these courses can provide our students with knowledge that can advance their intellect, professional and personal growth.
