About

The government Degree College for Women Pulwama was established in 2008 and the institution started its journey from a makeshift accommodation of four rooms at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary Pulwama with a very few courses/ subjects. Later in 2013, the college was shifted to its present campus, which is spread over an area of 64 kanals located at Dangarpora Pulwama near BSNL Exchange. The Department of Persian came into existence vide Govt. Order No: 335 HE of 2010 dated 09-09-2010 when Mtr. Tanveer Jahan an IAS officer was performing her duties as Secretary to Govt. Higher Education Department. Since then the department has privilege of being served by eminent scholars like Prof. Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Ms. Faiqa Fayaz and Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Shah who have worked as teaching faculty in the college. I joined the college on 1st of June 2017 and I am teaching the subject individually. Persian (Farsi) is one of the western Iranian languages within Indo Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. This language is spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, (Officially Known as Dari) and Tajikistan (officially known as Tajiki(since the Soviet era) Uzbekistan and some other regions which historically were Persianate societies and considered as part of Greater Iran. There are 11 million native speakers of this language. Persian has three main forms commonly known as Old Persian, Middle Persian and Modern Persian which include Dari and Tajik. In the present day world Persian is official language of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Persian has also been the prestigious cultural language in other regions of western Asia, Central Asia and south Asia by the various empires based in the regions. Programme/Course/Subject outcome The Persian language and literature is being taught in various colleges of the Kashmir and limited number of students opt this as their subject for study resulting their easy absorption in government sector like Education department, Higher Education Department, Tourism Department, Culture Departments like Cultural Academy, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Research and Publications Department, Media Centres etc. the students also get absorbed in various research establishments of the country because Persian has been the official language and Persian records are everywhere in the country preserved in manuscripts and Archival form. In addition to these government establishments, the Persian students also get adjusted in Social Welfare department and other administrative Departments. The students have bright future in public sector also because the language is spoken in the countries like Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan with whom the country has good relations and do trade at high level. The business perspective and avenues for the Persian students are high at their choice and interests. Vision The department is committed of being forerunner in the preservation and dissemination of the Persian language and literature with particular focus on Kashmiri culture and Heritage. Programme The college offers B. A., with Persian as a subject. The B. A. programme is of a three-year duration consisting of six semesters. Eligibility The students who have passed 10+2 in Arts, Science or Commerce are eligible to opt Persian as one of the core subject and opt as MIL (Modern Indian Languages) and Skill Enhancement Course commencing from 1st and 4th Semester respectively. Course Intake Capacity 40 seats Outcome After assessing the result statements of last years, it is observed that there is 100% positive result of the students who opted Persian as the subject.
